It’s been almost four weeks since the transformation of Native Space began - a project turning our unit on the brand new Bourges View Estate, Peterborough, from a blank warehouse to a dynamic co-warehouse.
To recap, we started with a fresh, untouched unit, a blank canvas, with a vision to create a vibrant, practical, and functional community space tailored for Peterborough’s small businesses. Native Space is designed to provide accessible unit spaces for businesses looking to expand beyond a home office, e-commerce startups in need of storage and logistical support, creatives seeking their own workspace, and much more.
The co-warehousing concept ties in workspaces, storage, logistical support, and in our case, amenities such as meeting space and media production facilities, so businesses who move in, have everything they need to scale up, all in one place.
Here’s a snapshot of our plans:
Custom Steel Wall Structure: We’re assembling a custom steel wall on the ground floor to divide the main space into warehouse suites and a Native Space Studio.
Lounge Area: The front of the ground floor, beneath the mezzanine, will be enclosed to create a cozy lounge, offering privacy from the units and the roller shutter door.
Kitchenette Addition: A kitchenette will be added to the lounge/reception area for convenience.
‘Garden Room-Style’ Meeting Space: This meeting room, complete with bi-fold doors, will open onto the lounge area, creating a versatile space perfect for events.
Mezzanine Office Spaces: The mezzanine will be enclosed with another set of custom steel walls, transforming it into premium office spaces.
After months of meticulous planning, construction kicked off in mid-July, and we’ve seen incredible progress in just a few short weeks!
In addition to these visible changes, there has also been significant progress with the less noticeable but crucial infrastructure:
Fire Alarm System: The fire alarm system has been installed.
Trunking and Cabling: The upstairs trunking and cabling are in place, with downstairs installation about to begin.
Ventilation System: This week, the ventilation system for air conditioning is being installed.
We’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of the custom steel walls, currently in the manufacturing stage. In the meantime, we’re tackling smaller but equally important tasks. And on a more exciting note, we’re about to start furniture hunting—now that the space is taking shape, we can envision how best to furnish it.
